The Beauty of Alcohol Inks

The Beauty of Alcohol Inks

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by. Well, here we are in the middle of summer and I’ve been busy developing several new classes one of which is… alcohol inks!

Actually I am going to have several alcohol ink classes starting with an INTRO TO ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP. In this two hour class, we will paint two 6X6 inch ceramic tiles and an 8x10 matted yupo painting.

My first INTRO TO ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP is this Sunday and it’s sold out, so that’s exciting! It’s a smaller class size than I usually offer, this will allow for a lot more one on one guidance and a more relaxing pace for me.

Here are a few photos of some of the things I’ve been doing with alcohol inks. I will post photos of the class too!

Exploring

For this Yellow-Orange Pear, I used a small paintbrush and dabbed my colors on!

Letting go

Alcohol inks are mesmerizing in the way they flow and change right before your eyes, but don’t fall in love too quickly because your artwork will continually change! Let it go!

It’s okay to blow it!

Yes we literally blow the ink around! You’ve gotta be quick and don’t get dizzy!

Online class coming soon!

In the meantime, I would love to have you at one of my public in-person classes offered monthly at Parkway Chateau in Kenosha (the next INTRO TO ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP is scheduled for Sunday, August 19th from 1 to 3 pm.) OR, you can book you own private INTRO TO ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP with a minimum of 6 people, and I’ll bring the studio to your home or office or wherever!

Announcing New Online Glass Painting Class

Announcing New Online Glass Painting Class

Hi everyone, I hope you’re having a great week so far. I am enjoying June, it’s my birthday month and it’s my favorite month! June just never lasts long enough!

Many of you know I’ve been teaching glass painting parties in-person for 5 years at local bars and restaurants and I’ve taught lots of private parties. I still offer them, however now I’ve decided to offer online glass painting classes as well. So, its going to be a virtual paint party, and you can invite a group of friends to paint party with you in the comfort of your own home while you paint along with me. My first class will be a tropical sunset on Friday, July 6th at 6:00 pm and it will be LIVE on Facebook in a private group.

I plan on offering these classes monthly and you can request what you’d like for me to teach by emailing me your requests or replying to this blog post. The classes will be $10 each and you’ll have access to the class for one week in the Facebook group. (I will then move the video to another host site yet TBD).

In this class you’ll learn

  • How to prepare your glass for best adhesion
  • How to apply glass enamel paint
  • How to blend and layer a tropical sunset
  • How to paint simple palm trees
  • How to cure and care for your painted glassware

In the live online class I will show you how to paint a tropical sunset onto a mason jar but you can use any glass or cup you would like. These look great on a stemless wine glass or a set of tall shot glasses!  Below I have a few product recommendation links that I found on Amazon if you don’t have the supplies.

When painting glassware, it is essential that you use glass enamels (regular acrylic paint will not stay on). I have been using Folk Art Enamels for 10 years and I love them.  Bonus, they are dishwasher safe (top shelf), however I hand wash mine. Oh, and I just want to mention that as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. I suggest you get yourself the 16-piece set of Folk Art Enamels since this set has the specific colors I used. If you would like to learn glass painting, I will be offering up plenty more glass painting classes in the future!

SUPPLY LIST

You will also need to request to join my private Facebook Group and to have your Facebook app running, and you can cast it to your television! (If you don’t know how, just google it).

Of course I’m still teaching glass painting classes in the greater Chicagoland area, in case you prefer the convenience of having all of the supplies ready for you to just walk in and start painting your masterpiece! My in-person glass painting classes start at $25 per person and they include all of the supplies, your choice of glassware and everything is completely set up for you and your group. You and your guests can choose anything they would like to paint (we don’t all have to paint the same thing). Email me if you would like to schedule your own group class! We can paint just about anything!
